The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Noah Yusuf, and the University Management joined the University Special Marshal in collaboration with Kwara State Road Marshal and Zonal Office, Road Safety Corps, flagged off road awareness and sensitization for road users on the newly-constructed Al-Hikmah University Road, on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
At a short flag-off ceremony held in his office, the Professor Yusuf indicated that the exercise was necessitated by the high incidence of accidents on the road, part of the University’s corporate social responsibility and community service and the need to ensure zero accident along the road. In his own speech, the Co-ordinator, Kwara state Special Marshal, Otunba Adefolaju Frederick, said he totally agreed with the justifications advanced by the Vice-Chancellor for the programme. He tasked the University’s Special Marshals to be proactive in their duties on road safety and awareness. The representatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps – SRC Ikenwude Emeka (Special Duty and External Relations) and SRC Basambo Olayinka Busari (Public Education Officer) separately charged the Special Marshals and road users on the need for dedication and commitment and to maintain the mandatory speed limit of 30km/Hour on township road respectively.
The sensitization kicked off from the University gate down to Mandate market where hand-bills on traffic rules and regulations were distributed to drivers and other road users. There was also an interactive session between the Special Marshals and the road users on the need to follow traffic rules and regulations in order to achieve an accident-free road.
