Prof. I.A Okunlola

Professor

Historical Background

Prof. Ipoola Okunlola FNAH is a Geologist and read exclusively in Germany where he obtained B.Sc Geology in 1975, a Master’s degree in Hydrogeology in 1977 and PhD in Engineering Geology in 1980; all at Justus Liebig University, Giessen, Germany. In 1983, he established Geosciences (Nigeria) Limited which has served as training ground to many young Geologists, some of which are Professors of Geology in some Universities in Nigeria today. The company has participated I various geological projects at national ad international levels. He joined the academics in 2008. He is a very busy professional, combining teaching as Professor of Geology, Dean of Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences and Pioneer Director of Abdulraheem Oladimeji Centre for Entrepreneurial and Vocational Studies at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin. As a practitioner of over 40 years, he is still much sought after as Consultant Geoscientist in hydrogeological, environmental and engineering geological projects and resource person in different geoscientifical fora. He is the pioneer President of Groundwater Development Association of Kwara State and has many journal publications to his credit as well as the principal author of the only book on Geo-Entrepreneurship in Nigeria. In 2014, Prof. I. A. Okunlola was awarded the fellowship of the Nigerian Association of Hydrogeologists (NAH) as member of the executive council of the Association for sixteen unbroken years, among which he served as the Managing Director of NAH CONSULTS, the consultancy arm of NAH for 8 years. In June 2021, he was honoured with two awards (Distinguished Member and Meritorious Service) by the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Ilorin Chapter.
