DIRECTOR’S WELCOME ADDRESS

The Centre was established to train intellectually capable postgraduate students with necessary
theoretical and practical skills in conflict and security management. The Centre, which draws
expertise from peace and security academicians across Nigeria and beyond, also conducts peace
research and engages in capacity building in conflict management and academic training of
security personnel. Five academic programmes are being floated by the Centre.

OUR ACTIVITIES

Centre for Peace and Security Studies Department/Programme Structure of the Unit/Centre The Centre has five academic programmes with qualified lecturers to handle its respective academic programmes. The programmes are the Ph.D., M.Phil/Ph.D., M.A. Academic and Professional Degree, and Postgraduate Diploma and Certificate Course in Peace and Security Studies. The Centre currently has 58 students, consisting of 15 Ph.D., 9 M.Phil/Ph.D., and 28 Master students, with 4 students on the Postgraduate Diploma and 2 on Certificate Course programmes. Activities of the Unit/ Centre The activities of the Centre include: i. Teaching and learning; ii. Capacity building training programme; iii. Annual Peace and Security Retreat for postgraduate students; Distinguished personality lecture; v. Communicating the activities of the Centre to the global audience through the use of electronic media; and vi. Procuring of one Sienna Car for the Centre .

D.I.G. NIGERIAN POLICE FORCE BECOMES THE FIRST TO BAG A PhD DEGREE IN THE CENTRE FOR PEACE AND SECURITY STUDIES AL-HIKMAH UNIVERSITY.

Al-Hikmah University on Monday, May 15, 2023, had a project defence for the first doctoral candidate for the Centre for Peace and Security Studies, D.I.G. Olukayode Egbetokun Adeolu, Deputy Inspector General of the Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Force Headquarters,
Abuja.
The D.I.G. defended his thesis on EFFECTS OF #ENDSARS PROTEST POLICING STARTEGIES ON COMMUNITY SECURITY IN LAGOS, NIGERIA. He stated how he was able to gather all the primary data needed for the success of his project and how other security agencies and researchers in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria were able to throw in support while carrying out his research. He, therefore, explained the role the armed forces played in bringing calm to the protest.

In attendance to witness the thesis defence were: the Founder of Al-hikmah University, Alhaji Chief (Dr) Abdul-raheem Oladimeji, OF, FAEAP, SPSP Jagunmolu, Asiwaju of Igbominaland, Arogundade of Lagos, Kwara state commissioner of police (CP) Paul Odama, the Vice Chancellor of Al-hikmah University, Prof. Noah Yusuf, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Al-hikmah University, Prof. G.O Akashoro, the Ag Director for Peace and Security Studies, Dr R.A Adimula, university management staff, and other security experts.
