AL-HIKMAH UNIVERSITY CENTRE FOR ISLAMIC HERITAGE HOSTS 4TH INTER-UNIVERSITY QUR’AN COMPETITION

Al-Hikmah University Centre for Islamic Heritage in Ilorin, Kwara State, hosted the 4th Inter-University Qur’an Memorisation Competition.

The competition was held among 22 universities including; Al-Hikmah University, University of Ilorin, Kwara state University, Malete, Muhammad Kamalideen University, Ilorin, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, Bayero University Kano, Fountain University Osogbo, Igbinedion University Okada, Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho among others, at the University auditorium, Adeta campus, from Saturday, 24th, January, to Monday 26th January 2026.

The Vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Lateef Oladimeji in his welcome address stated that the annual Qur’anic competition is aimed at fostering deeper understanding and appreciation of the Qur’an among young Muslims, as well as promoting unity, Islamic teachings and moral excellence within tertiary institutions.

Dr. Nafiu Arikewuyo, the Director Centre for Islamic Heritage, Al-Hikmah University, in his remarks noted that the aim of the competition is to work towards the preservation and promotion of the Qur’an as a spritual scripture and to celebrate its sterling features.

Dr Arikewuyo emphasised the importance of the Qur’an as the most authentic, accurate and the most consulted document on earth in shaping Islamic civilization and heritage.

The Director also stated that the event is unique as it honours two distinguished personalities, namely; Hon. Afees Onaara, the chairman and Chief Executive officer of Chaste Intellect, International school, and Alhaji Ibrahim Atanda, the proprietor, Ar-Raheem International school for Qur’anic Memorisation and Arabic studies for, their contributions towards Qur’anic Memorisation and Islamic affairs in Kwara state.
