The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the commencement of MB;BS Medicine and Surgery programme in Al-Hikmah University. The cheering news was contained in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor by the Acting Director, Academic Planning of the Commission.
The approval is a follow-up to the earlier verification visit by an NUC team on 28th October, 2024.
According to the letter, the NUC “has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the MBBS. Medicine and Surgery programmes of the university, to run in the Main Campus of the university with effect from 2024/2025 academic”.
The NUC however said, “the approval does not cover the part-time mode of delivery of the programme. Before the part-time mode of delivery of the programme can commence, a request should be forwarded to the commission for further processing “.
Further, the University is enjoined to provide adequate human and material resources for the development and growth of the approved programmes.
This achievement reflects Al-Hikmah University’s unwavering readiness to produce highly skilled medical professionals who will contribute significantly to the nation’s healthcare sector. As the University prepares to welcome its first set of MB;BS students, there is high hope that Al-Hikmah University Medical Programme will be of proven academic standard.
The NUC approval has paved the way for the follow-up actions which include among others, advertisement, notification to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and admission.
