This study examined the impact of drug abuse on peace and security in Kwara State, with a specific focus on Ilorin Metropolis. Drug abuse has become a growing concern in Nigeria, contributing to increased crime, youth delinquency, and the erosion of societal values. The research adopted a qualitative descriptive design and utilized in-depth semi-structured interview with key stakeholders, such as law enforcement officers, healthcare providers, youth, community leaders, and representatives of non-governmental organizations. Secondary data from official reports and publications were also analyzed to contextualize the findings. The study revealed that socio-economic factors such as unemployment, poverty, and social disintegration significantly contribute to the prevalence of drug abuse in Ilorin. The misuse of substances like tramadol, cannabis, and codeine was found to fuel cultism, armed robbery, and domestic violence, thereby undermining community peace and security. The findings further revealed that although government and community interventions exist, they are often limited by poor coordination, inadequate funding, and weak rehabilitation frameworks. The study concluded that drug abuse poses a serious threat to peace and security in Kwara State and emphasized the need for multi-sectoral strategies involving government agencies, civil society, and religious institutions to curb the menace. It recommends the strengthening of rehabilitation programs, community-based prevention efforts, and youth empowerment initiatives as sustainable solutions to mitigate the crisis.
