Abstract

This paper examined the social, cultural, and economic dimensions of marital disharmony in the Ilorin Metropolis and explores effective management strategies. In Ilorin, traditional beliefs and cultural expectations significantly influence marriage, often dictating gender roles and responsibilities. These conventional arrangements are challenged by modernization and changing social norms. Additionally, economic instability, such as job uncertainty and financial hardships, further strains marriages. The paper highlights the importance of addressing the emotional and psychological aspects of marital conflict using culturally sensitive counselling techniques, such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Cognitive behavioural Therapy (CBT). Effective marital intervention should include comprehensive approaches, such as marital counselling, financial counselling, conflict resolution strategies, and communication skills training. This paper provides the need for tailored counselling interventions to foster stronger, long-lasting relationships in the Ilorin Metropolis. counsellors can better assist couples in overcoming marital issues by using a thorough and adaptable strategy, which will promote relationship satisfaction and stability. This paper emphasizes how complex marital discord is in Ilorin and how specialized counselling interventions are necessary to promote stronger, longer-lasting relationships
