Innovation is the core of the quality education system. It is of paramount importance to
teachers and learners for better performance. Functional counselling centre assists in the total
transformation of society making humanity the focus of development drive and seeking to
develop man’s potentialities in totality. It provides a serene environment that is conducive for
counselling practices. This paper focused on functional counselling centre for educational
leadership and innovation. It highlighted objectives of the counselling centre, facilities required
of a good counselling centre, benefits of guidance and counselling programmes, leadership and
innovation as well as a counsellor as an innovator among others. It, therefore, suggested that it
is of utmost importance for schools to have a functional counselling centre that will enhance the
holistic development of both staff and students.
