IMPACT OF BLENDED LEARNING APPROACH ON SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN KWARA STATE

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of blended learning approach on secondary school students' academic 
performance in Kwara State. The research design adopted for the study was a descriptive research design. The 
population for the study comprised all the 125,673 students in the 363 private senior secondary schools in Kwara 
State. Random sampling technique was used to select six local government areas (LGAs) out of the 16 while 10 
schools were randomly selected from each of the LGAs. Proportionate sampling technique was used to select 378 
students out of the 25,505 in the sampled schools. A self-designed instrument tagged "Blended Learning 
Questionnaire" BLQ" and "Students' Academic Performance Profoma" SAPP were used to elicit relevant data. The 
instrument was validated and the result of its reliability test done through the use of Cronbach’ Alpha was 0.79. 
Percentage was used to answer research questions while Pearson product-moment correlation was used to test 
hypothesis. The major finding indicated that blended learning had a significant impact on secondary school students' 
academic performance in Kwara State. From the findings of the study, it was concluded that the blended learning 
approaches adopted in instructional delivery in secondary schools in Kwara State were effective. Therefore, it was 
recommended, among others, that the school managements should sustain and improve on the use of blended 
learning system in order to equip the students with relevant and contemporary knowledge needed to engage 
successfully engage with technology and consequently enhance their academic performance.
