This paper explores the role of mathematics education in achieving sustainable development in Nigeria, with a focus
on interdisciplinary approaches to problem-solving. Mathematics is a subject that has application in different
disciplines in science and other fields of studies. Mathematics education on the other hand is the process of teaching
and learning of mathematics, the knowledge of which is needed to address the country's development challenges.
Through a review of literature, we demonstrate how mathematics can be applied to real-world problems in areas
such as healthcare and agriculture. We also highlight the need for collaboration between mathematicians, scientists,
and practitioners from other fields to develop innovative solutions. Our findings emphasize the importance of
interdisciplinary mathematics education in preparing students to tackle complex problems and promote sustainable
development in Nigeria.
