Abstract

The study examined therelationship between learning orientation and performance of SMEs in Kogi state
Nigeria. The study adopted a survey design using a structured questionnaire which were administered to 500
randomly selected SMEs in Kogistste.Data collected was analyzed using PLS-SEM. The findings of the study
revealed that there is a significant and positiverelationship between learningorientation andperformance of
SMEs. By implication, the findings of this study suggested that underperformance among SMEs in Kogi state
which is an issue of serious concern and subject of discussion to all citizens and other stakeholders could be
ameliorated through learningorientation. The present study recommended that Kogi state government through
the appropriate regulatory agency SMEDAN should organize a seminars and workshop on regular basis to
registered SMEs operating in the state on how to obtain and share information concerning changes in the
market, customers’ expectations and needs, competitors’ actions and new technologies development, in order to
create new products or services that are superior to those of competitorsas this will improve the performance of
SMEs in the state.
